Evaluation of the groundwater intrinsic vulnerability in West Liaohe plain, Inner Mongolia, China

    • Based on the results of groundwater resources evaluation in West Liaohe plain, the main seven effect factors that influence intrinsic vulnerability are selected. With the spatial analysis function of GIS the study area is divided into 14365 evaluation units. Thereafter, the groundwater vulnerability is evaluated with the comprehensive fuzzy evaluation method on the basis of DRASTIC, and the groundwater vulnerability map is developed afterwards. The results show that groundwater vulnerability in West Liaohe plain (Inner Mongolia part) can be cataloged into three zones-most area where it is quite easier to be polluted, the southern loess area where it is quite more difficult to be polluted and the zone easily to be polluted in West Liaohe and Wuerjimulun River. The evaluation result is available for the effective protection of groundwater resource and the prevention of groundwater pollution.
