A STROMATOLITE ASSEMBLAGE IN THE SINIAN BADAOJIANG FORMATION IN SOUTHERN JILIN AND ITS STRATIGRAPHIC SIGNIFICANCE

    • In the Santonghe, Hunjiang and Yalujiang basins in southern Jilin Province, the Badaojiang formation is widespread, in which there are very abundant stromatolites, mainly including such elements as Gymnosolen, Linella, Inzeria, Parmites, Colonnella, Jurusania and Baicalia. This new stromatolite assemblage differs markedly from the fourth stromatolite assemblage of the Tieling Formation and the fifth stromatolite assemblage of the Xiamaling Formation of the Jixian System. Therefore the author proposes that the stromatolite assem- blage in the Badaojiang Formation be called the sixth stromatolite assemblage. Besides, according to the data concerning the regional stratigraphic correlation, isotopic ages and microfossil plants, the stratigraphic position of the Badaojiang Formation is largely equivalent to that of the Doushantuo-Dengying Formation and its age should be assigned to late Sinian.
