    Paleo-continent reconstruction system design and research based on GIS

    • The progressive development of computer technology has greatly supported the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the paleo-continent. The function of data management and data analysis, provided by the GIS technique, especially constitutes a good basis for the development of the paleo-continent reconstruction system. This paper has analyzed and summarized the characteristics of relevant software developed both in China and abroad and, on such a basis, designed and developed a new system to reconstruct the paleo-continent. Through the calculation of several geological and geometric factors such as paleomagnetic pole and Euler pole, these factors can be quantitatively described. At the same time, the system can be used to manage, search, analyze and display all these data. With Qiangtang, Lhasa and Himalaya as examples, the application of the paleo-continent reconstruction system is described in this paper.
